Three Things You Can Make on Your Baking Steel

Looking for inspiration on what to make on your baking steel?

Here we show you our three favorite recipes for your baking steel - with an extra bonus at the bottom of the post.

1. The Perfect Pizza Dough

Homemade pizza has become increasingly popular and for good reason: Pizza is a sure winner in any home, and if you really want to, there's the opportunity to dive into a complicated process for the authentic Italian result.

Here you get a recipe where everyone can participate, and it succeeds every time. The dough rises in the refrigerator, where it has time to develop flavor and gluten structure - and then you can let it sit in the cold until you're ready to use it. The pizzas get an airy and delicious crust with a juicy crumb.

2. Sourdough Rolls

It's a very special feeling to take your first successful sourdough rolls out of the oven, and it will definitely not be the last once you've discovered sourdough's fantastic baking properties. The rolls are crispy, airy, delicious and perfect alongside your morning coffee with butter and a slice of cheese.

You can bake sourdough rolls on a regular baking sheet, but they rise best when baked on a baking steel, so they become crispy on the outside and juicy inside. The rolls are longer lasting than yeast bread, as they are made with sourdough, and they can easily be frozen, so you can always pull a sourdough roll out of the freezer.

3. Sourdough Baguettes

Baguettes are a sure winner on most dinner tables, whether for charcuterie, tapas or as a side dish to the main course. Here in a simple version, baked with sourdough.

The dough undergoes cold fermentation, so it has time to develop flavor and an even better structure. When you're ready, simply turn the dough out onto a work surface, shape it into baguettes, bake and then you have warm sourdough baguettes for dinner. They can also easily be used for sandwiches the next day, as the sourdough keeps the bread fresh and juicy for a longer time.

Bonus: Pita Bread

Many people think that making homemade pita bread is difficult because they need the characteristic hollow space in the middle, leaving room for delicious fillings. However, it's much easier than you think, and you'll never get tired of seeing your pita breads 'pop' inside the oven.

If you bake your pita breads on a baking steel, you get the best result, as the baking steel's explosive heat helps the breads rise up. Fill them with your favorite filling, and if you have any left over, they can easily go into the freezer for when you want to make an easy dinner one day.
